Description
Delightful soft and airy treats that transport you to the streets of Paris with every bite.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm milk and sugar, then sprinkle the yeast on top. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- In another bowl, mix the flour and a pinch of salt. Gradually pour in the yeast mixture, and stir until combined.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for an hour or until doubled in size.
- Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness, and cut into squares or rectangles.
- Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry beignets in batches until golden brown on each side—about 2-3 minutes.
- Remove and drain on paper towels before dusting generously with powdered sugar.
Notes
Best enjoyed fresh and warm. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days.
