Description

Delight in the buttery, flaky goodness of homemade croissants, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Mix warm milk and yeast in a bowl. Let sit for about 10 minutes to activate the yeast.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add yeast mixture, softened butter, and cold water. Mix until a cohesive dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a warm area to rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  4. Roll out the dough into a flat rectangle and begin folding to create layers.
  5. Cut the dough into triangles and roll them into the croissant shape.
  6. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, brush with egg wash, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

Try using European-style butter for a richer flavor.
