Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage

- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 4 cups chicken or beef broth
- 2 cups uncooked pasta (like rotini or fusilli)
- 2 teaspoons dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- Parmesan cheese for serving
- Fresh basil for garnish
Instructions
- In a large pot, brown the ground beef or sausage over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
- Add diced onion and minced garlic and sauté until the onion is translucent.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, broth, dried basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil.
- Add uncooked pasta and cook according to package instructions until tender.
- Stir in ricotta cheese and half of the mozzarella cheese until well combined.
- Serve hot, topped with remaining mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, and fresh basil.
Notes
For a richer flavor, add a splash of red wine while sautéing the onions and garlic. Use different types of pasta for variety, and stir in more ricotta for creaminess.
