Description
Delightful, fluffy beignets dusted with powdered sugar, a taste of New Orleans made easy at home.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about five minutes until frothy.
- Gradually mix in the flour until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough into a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.
- Roll out the dough to about half an inch thick and cut it into 2-inch squares.
- Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Carefully lower the squares of dough into the hot oil; fry until puffed and golden, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- Dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
Serve fresh out of the fryer for best taste. These beignets can be paired with chocolate sauce or served with fresh fruit.
