- 1 loaf thick bread (challah or brioche)
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon butter (for greasing)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, cream, sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
- Arrange your bread slices in a greased baking dish, slightly overlapping them.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread, ensuring every slice is well-coated.
- Allow it to soak for at least 30 minutes (preferably overnight in the fridge).
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until set and golden.
- Once out of the oven, sprinkle a thin layer of sugar over the top.
- Using a kitchen torch, carefully brûlée the sugar until caramelized and bubbly.
Notes
Soak the bread longer for creamier texture. You can use stale bread for better absorption.
