Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup buttermilk (or 1/4 cup milk mixed with 1 teaspoon lemon juice or vinegar)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Gel food coloring (pink and blue)
  • Cotton candy flavoring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together.
  3. In another bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add buttermilk, egg, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture. Mix until well combined.
  5. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until everything comes together.
  6. Divide the dough into two parts. Use pink gel food coloring for one half and blue for the other, mixing until colors are fully incorporated.
  7. Roll both colors of dough into small balls and combine them slightly to create a swirl effect.
  8. Place the dough balls on a baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are slightly golden.
  9. Let the cookies cool on a rack before serving.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container for up to a week or freeze for longer storage. For more intense colors, add more gel food coloring.
