Description

Indulge in homemade Classic Yeast Doughnuts that are fluffy, warm, and perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup vegetable or canola oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk until lukewarm, then add the yeast and a tablespoon of sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until bubbles form.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, remaining sugar, and salt.
  3. Pour the yeast mixture and add the oil to the flour mixture. Stir until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for about 1 hour until it doubles in size.
  6. Roll out the dough to about half an inch thick and cut out doughnuts.
  7. Let the shaped dough rise again for 30 minutes.
  8. Heat oil in a deep fryer or pot to 375°F (190°C) and fry doughnuts until golden brown.
  9. Remove and drain on paper towels. Optional: Toss in sugar or glaze as desired.

Notes

Serve warm and enjoy with powdered sugar or glazing. For freezing, wrap well and store; they can last up to a month.
