- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup vegetable or canola oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Warm the milk until lukewarm, then add the yeast and a tablespoon of sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until bubbles form.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, remaining sugar, and salt.
- Pour the yeast mixture and add the oil to the flour mixture. Stir until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for about 1 hour until it doubles in size.
- Roll out the dough to about half an inch thick and cut out doughnuts.
- Let the shaped dough rise again for 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or pot to 375°F (190°C) and fry doughnuts until golden brown.
- Remove and drain on paper towels. Optional: Toss in sugar or glaze as desired.
Notes
Serve warm and enjoy with powdered sugar or glazing. For freezing, wrap well and store; they can last up to a month.
