Description
A delightful dish transforming stale croissants and fresh berries into a luscious breakfast or brunch treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 croissants, slightly stale or a day old
- 2 cups mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, or blackberries)
- 1 ½ cups whole milk
- 1 ½ cups heavy cream
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ⅓ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for garnish)
- Optional: 1 tablespoon lemon zest for a citrusy boost
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Slice the croissants into halves or quarters and arrange them in the baking dish.
- Scatter mixed berries evenly over the croissants.
- In a large bowl, whip together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and granulated sugar until smooth.
- Pour the custard over the croissants and gently press each piece to absorb the liquid. Let it rest for 15-20 minutes or refrigerate overnight.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes until the top is golden brown and the custard is set yet slightly jiggly in the center.
- Once cool, dust with powdered sugar and serve with maple syrup, whipped cream, or fresh berries.
Notes
Best enjoyed warm with a dollop of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Leftovers can be covered and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
