Description

A delightful dish transforming stale croissants and fresh berries into a luscious breakfast or brunch treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 croissants, slightly stale or a day old
  • 2 cups mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, or blackberries)
  • 1 ½ cups whole milk
  • 1 ½ cups heavy cream
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for garnish)
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon lemon zest for a citrusy boost

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Slice the croissants into halves or quarters and arrange them in the baking dish.
  3. Scatter mixed berries evenly over the croissants.
  4. In a large bowl, whip together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and granulated sugar until smooth.
  5. Pour the custard over the croissants and gently press each piece to absorb the liquid. Let it rest for 15-20 minutes or refrigerate overnight.
  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes until the top is golden brown and the custard is set yet slightly jiggly in the center.
  7. Once cool, dust with powdered sugar and serve with maple syrup, whipped cream, or fresh berries.

Notes

Best enjoyed warm with a dollop of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Leftovers can be covered and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
