Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup whole milk (or almond milk)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Activate yeast by combining warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Let sit until frothy.
- In a larger mixing bowl, combine flour and a pinch of salt.
- Pour activated yeast mixture and vanilla into the flour mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead dough for about 5-8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm area for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
- Once risen, roll out the dough to about half an inch thick and cut into squares.
- Heat oil in a deep pot, and fry beignet squares until golden brown on both sides.
- Remove from oil and let drain on paper towels. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
Serve warm with powdered sugar. Pair with fresh fruit or chocolate sauce for dipping.
